4,670 people tested positive for Covid-19 between 21 and 27 February.

Last week, health officials conducted 17,551 coronavirus tests, out of which more than 4,600 came back positive. This represents an increase of 28% compared to the previous seven days. The positivity rate for unvaccinated people was 754 per 100,000 residents, the one for the fully vaccinated 728.6.

The number of active infections decreased from 9,747 to 8,468 last week. The average age of people who contracted Covid-19 was 33.8 years. 173,717 people are now considered to be recovered.

The overall situation in the country's hospitals has improved in the meantime. 21 new admissions were made last week, half as many as during the previous seven-day period. The number of ICU patients decreased from nine to seven, out of which two were not vaccinated. The average age of infected patients was 62 years. Twelve out of 21 patients in normal care were not vaccinated, the remaining nine were fully vaccinated.

Seven further coronavirus deaths were recorded last week. The average age of deceased patients is now 79 years.

The biggest increase in new infections occurred in the under 14 age group (+75%), followed by 15 to 29 (+61%). The lowest incidence rate was recorded in the 60 to 74 group with 403 cases per 100,000 residents. The highest one occurred in the 30 to 44 group with 1,278 cases per 100,000 residents.

Most new infections occurred in family circles (24.6%), followed by holidays abroad (22.8%), leisure activities (5.3%), education (3.6%), and work (2.3%). In 37.03% of cases, no infection source was identified.

5,296 vaccine doses were administered last week. 535 people received their first shot, 1,531 the second one, and 2,643 the third one. 468,692 people in Luxembourg are now considered fully inoculated, which reflects 77.9% of the population above the age of five.
