96.5% of all new Covid-19 cases in Luxembourg are attributed to the Omicron variant.
The weekly ReViLux report published on Friday leaves no doubt about the identity of the majority variant in Luxembourg.
With 96.5% of national infections, Omicron is by far the most widespread variant of the coronavirus in the Grand Duchy.
To establish this percentage, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) analysed 701 samples taken from residents during the second week of January.
This represents 6% of the infections recorded (11,728) during this period and meets the ECDC recommendations for measuring the prevalence of a variant at national level.
The LNS specifies that it is the BA.1. lineage of the Omicron variant that has been detected most frequently.
