RTL Today
The third week of January saw 11,700 positive PCR results from around 37,800 tests performed - an increase of 8% over the previous week.

The positivity rate jumped up to 31.02% from 29.5% the previous week, according to the latest weekly review published by the Ministry of Health on Thursday.

Among the 11,728 infections detected this week, the incidence rate is 2,807 per 100,000 unvaccinated people and 1,429 per 100,000 people with a complete vaccination schedule.

The number of people in isolation has increased from 14,700 to 22,265, while 8,787 people were in quarantine. This represents a massive increase of 144% compared to the second week of January.

Over the last week, the average age of infected people has dropped from 31 to 28 years of age. The average age of those hospitalised has also dropped, to 48 from 56, but on the whole hospitalisations have largely remained stable.

Among hospitalisations, 26 out of 48 patients in normal care were not vaccinated, while 14 out of 19 patients in intensive care were not vaccinated.

Seven people died of Covid causes in the week of 10-16 January, down from 13 the previous week.

Contact tracing showed the majority of traceable infections were occurring within families, with 24.2%, followed by 6.6% occurring abroad, and 3.6% at work. However, 57.7% of cases had no exact source.
As for education, 34 classes were badly affected in the last week, including 22 in primary and 5 in secondary education. These were reported under scenario 4 of the school Covid plan, which kicks in where there are more than 5 Covid cases in a single class.

The seven-day incidence rate in Luxembourg has risen slightly from 1,682 to 1,848 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. The largest increase was observed among those aged between 0 and 14, where infections rose by 77%. For people aged 30-44 the increase was just 10%, dropping to 9% for the over-75s.

The concentration of the virus observed in Luxembourg’s wastewater treatment plants is still extremely high, on a similar level to that recorded in October 2020.
