Customs officials issued the warning on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, a number of people received text messages informing them that parcels are blocked at the border and that they can only be freed if certain fines are paid.

Customs officials stress that there is no procedure for comparable text messages to be sent out to people and that they have already filed a police complaint about the attempted fraud.

The police now recommends that people who received and complied with one of the text messages also file a complaint.
