The station was shut for regular railway traffic over the school holiday so that building materials could be brought to the construction site.
For one, the platforms receive a significant extension to reach about 270 meters.
44 individual concrete segments, weighing about 12.5 tonnes each, need to be precisely assembled at the location to finish the extension. The platforms will also be equipped with roofing to increase the comfort of travellers and commuters.
A four-story car park is being constructed next to the train station. The building will however not be connected to the station with a flyover, as it is being envisioned at a similar project in Rodange. The car park is expected to have close to 400 spots.
Construction and expansion works of the Mersch station are scheduled to be concluded in December 2022.
