During the 11th bilateral summit, Luxembourg and Belgium reached an agreement regarding the extension of telework for Belgian cross-border workers.

The agreement provides that, as of 2022, cross-border workers living in Belgium will be able to work 34 days at home without being subject to taxes on their salaries by the Belgian authorities.

Luxembourg has a similar agreement with France for 29 days and with Germany for 19 days of telework respectively.

Brussels–Luxembourg City in two hours by 2024?

In addition, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo also announced that the railway line between Brussels and Luxembourg City is to be modernised as soon as possible. Bettel stated that while such a project has been talked about for a long time already, concrete steps towards a realisation of the idea now seem more likely under Belgium's new Prime Minister. Budgets are being earmarked and construction projects are underway, Bettel added.

In an interview, De Croo announced that the goal is to reduce the travel time between Brussels and Luxembourg City from three to two hours by 2024, i.e. in the current legislative period.
