The Water Management Authority announced that the Sûre river levels had dropped overnight, and would continue to do so throughout the day on Saturday. In Diekirch and Bollendorf, the river has dropped below pre-alert levels.
However, water levels in Rosport are still more than four metres higher than normal, at over 5 metres high. Nevertheless, this is an improvement over the flood’s peak, which reached up to 9.6 metres on Thursday.
The Moselle river has continued to rise into Saturday morning, bypassing the alert threshold at Stadtbredimus, where levels are climbing by around 2 centimetres per hour. However, it has dropped again in Grevenmacher, Mertert and Wasserbillig.
Authorities have estimated that the Moselle will reach a peak of 5.60 metres in Remich by Saturday afternoon before receding once more.
Restoration and clean-up work will still be able to continue in the affected areas as Luxembourg recovers from the disaster.
