On Saturday, the Chamber of Deputies passed the new Covid laws with a majority of votes. The adapted regulations will be in place until 15 July. What will change?

  • The curfew is no longer in place
  • Restaurants can stay open until 1.00 a.m.
  • Groups of up to ten people can gather privately and outdoors
  • Groups of up to ten people can exercise together
  • Gatherings of up to 300 people can take place with the help of the Covidcheck system
  • Pupils no longer have to wear masks outside during school breaks
  • The maximum customer limit of one per ten square metres will be lifted in shopping centres
  • Eating inside in shopping malls, train stations, or airports is once more allowed

Covidcheck

The introduction of the Covidcheck system will allow fully vaccinated people, those who got tested, as well as those who recovered from the virus to prove their status with the help of a QR code. These can be generated in digital or print form and work either way.

Furthermore, the validity of PCR tests now extends over 72 hours, and the one of rapid tests over 48 hours.

Restaurants, bars, and cafés

The government has decided to lift restrictions in the hospitality sector, but all depends on whether a business decides to apply the new Covidcheck system:

  • If they do, more than four people are allowed to sit at one table inside, but only if they have a valid QR code proving vaccination, testing, or recovery status. In that case, masks are no longer mandatory, same as social distancing rules.
  • If they don’t, no more than four people can sit together, and guests will have to take a rapid test beforehand.

Masks

Despite the general easing of restrictions, masks will remain mandatory in the following situations:

  • While shopping for groceries.
  • On public transport.
  • Inside schools.
  • When more than ten people gather outside of the Covidcheck system
