The Communist Party also demands that people in partial unemployment should receive 100%, and not just 80%, of their salary.
In the context of May Day, the Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL) published a statement on Thursday evening, detailing a number of demands which the party states are meant to avoid workers being burdened with the negative consequences of the health crisis.
The KPL stresses that the government should do more to support small businesses which have "involuntarily gotten into serious difficulties". The Communist Party also demands pay rises for the "heroes of the pandemic", i.e. workers in the healthcare, cleaning, and security industries.
The KPL, who will also be supporting the May Day protest organised by the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL), further demands the creation of 50,000 public housing units over the next ten years as well as an increase of the minimum wage to €14 an hour.
