The MyGuichet.lu website experienced unprecedented high levels of traffic on Wednesday night following the launch of the AstraZeneca vaccine registration service, causing servers to buckle under the pressure.

18,000 people aged 30-54 have already registered for the AstraZeneca jab on impfen.lu as of Thursday morning. However, there are just 15,000 available doses at present, according to the latest update.

Nevertheless, registration demand was sufficiently high on Wednesday evening, with around 25,000 connections established as soon as the site went live at 6pm. The servers promptly crashed as a result.

Nico Majerus of the CTIE (state technology centre) said the issue had been resolved on Thursday morning.

Many people reported issues with completing their application. Majerus explained that volunteers who filled the application and clicked the "Transmettre" button would have successfully registered for the waitlist. This remains the case even for those who have not received email confirmation. Those who seek to register a second time will receive an error message regarding their social security number, but their application should have been completed provided they reached the "Transmettre" stage.

The technical issues above also affected the Large Scale Testing appointment booking system, which has since been fixed.
