For the time being, Luxembourg will not introduce an obligation to wear FFP2 masks in public transport.

In Austria, such a measure will enter into force as of next week.

Luxembourg residents, on the other hand, can continue to wear standard surgical masks in trains, busses, or tramways.

Minister of Health Paulette Lenert confirmed this in her answer to an urgent parliamentary question by MP Carlo Back from the Green Party.

However, Lenert also specified that surgical masks should ideally be the standard and thus the minister advises people to refrain from using any type of scarves (including tube scarves) or masks made out of fabric because surgical masks provide a better protection against viruses, particularly in winter.

FFP2 masks do remain the better option for vulnerable people, according to Lenert.
