Minister of Health Paulette Lenert has warned that a full lockdown is looking more and more likely in Luxembourg.

Lenert made the statement in an interview on RTL Télé Luxembourg on Thursday night.

Nonetheless, she stressed that the latest data showed some improvements in the coronavirus situation, meaning the government will wait until the end of the week to make a decision.

The Minister of Health argued that the population's behaviour has been changing.

The government council will meet on on Friday morning, with Xavier Bettel joining from self-isolation, unless he has received the result of his test by then.

On Thursday, RTL reported that the Minister of Education Claude Meisch was no longer ruling out an extension of the Christmas holidays. A newsletter sent to teachers also asked them to check all digital tools are operational for potential homeschooling after the holidays. Students were also asked to take their school materials home over the holidays.

According to our information, school closures and a further lockdown of economic activity until mid-January are potentially on the cards. Lex Folscheid, senior official at the Ministry of Education, said to RTL in an interview that no further restrictions are to be expected in schools before Christmas.
