On Tuesday, the Business Cycle Committee met with the Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot and the Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy Dan Kersch.

During the month of November, 4,172 businesses filed an application to initiate partial unemployment procedures in December, an increase of 1,379 applications compared to the month prior. In November 2019 with no ongoing pandemic, only 25 such demands were filed.

3,809 of the aforementioned applications have been accepted thus far, meaning that a total of 30,244 workers will be partially unemployed in December. Officials further announced the decision to extend the application process until 4 December. 4 companies applied for an employment retention programme.

The Business Cycle Committee will next convene on 17 December.
