
In comparison to the second trimester of 2019, the unemployment rate has increased from 5.5 to 6.5%. Overall, fewer jobs were created in the private sector, while the government increased recruiting, which was of benefits to residents of the Grand Duchy.
The report also analyses the situation of so-called frontline workers, meaning those people whose efforts have been considered indispensable since the beginning of the outbreak. A total of 150,000 employees are distributed over the health sector, cleaning services, and logistics. On average, they make €23.90 per hour, which equals 90% of the average salary awarded to non-essential workers during the same period of time.

52% of people working in Luxembourg conducted work remotely from home during the crisis. Most of them occupy positions within the domains of communication and information, often employed by large corporations, banks, insurance companies, or the government. The rate for health care workers was substantially lower in contrast.

Although the poverty risk has remained more or less stable over recent years, Statec warned of a slight tendency towards more elevated levels in the future.
