SUNDAY POLLA new poll in Luxembourg shows strong backing for government-brokered tripartite meetings. 83% of voters surveyed support convening the talks, bringing together the government, employers, and trade unions. The survey, carried out by research firm ILRES for RTL and the Luxemburger Wort, questioned nearly 1,900 eligible voters. Further poll findings on other political questions are due to be published later today.

MICHELIN STAR – A restaurant in Luxembourg City has been awarded its first Michelin star. Le Lys, led by chef Kim de Dood and set in the Villa Pétrusse, was recognised in the new Michelin Guide for Luxembourg and Belgium. The guide praised the restaurant's creative take on Luxembourgish cuisine, with notable Asian influences. It joins 12 restaurants in the country with Michelin stars.

RTL TODAY RADIO FM RTL Today Radio reaches an important new milestone today, as it officially launches on the FM band in Luxembourg. From now on, listeners can tune in to the station on 93.3 FM, making its English-language programming more accessible than ever.

FUEL PRICES – Prices for almost all fuel products have increased again. The price of 95-octane petrol has gone up by 4.8 cents, reaching €1.85 per litre. For 98-octane petrol, the increase is 4.6 cents, bringing the price to €1.93 per litre. Diesel and heating oil have also risen by 2 cents a litre each.

World

GERMANY RAMPAGEA man has driven his car deliberately into a crowd in the German city of Leipzig, killing 2 people and seriously injuring at least 3 others. Police have described the incident as a rampage. The 33-year-old suspect, reported to have a history of mental illness, did not resist arrest. The motive remains unclear.

IRAN WAR – The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is escalating. The US military says it has sunk 6 small Iranian vessels after they attacked cargo ships in the waterway. President Trump announced over the weekend that civilian ships would be escorted through the strait, and Washington says 2 merchant ships have since passed through safely. A claim Iran denies. The United Arab Emirates has separately reported Iranian rocket and drone attacks, causing a large fire at an oil facility.

UKRAINE WAR Russia and Ukraine have both declared a ceasefire. Moscow says it will halt attacks for Friday and Saturday, timed around Russia's Victory Day commemorations marking the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany on 9 May. President Zelensky says the pause will begin tonight, though he gave no end date. Both sides have warned of retaliation if the truce is broken.

G7 TRADE – G7 trade ministers are meeting in Paris today and tomorrow. Industrial overcapacity, rare minerals, and small parcel imports are on the agenda. American tariffs on European cars are not formally on the table, though EU Commissioner Maros Šefčovič is expected to raise the issue with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines.

EU ARMENIAThe European Union and Armenia have agreed to deepen cooperation in energy, defence, digital infrastructure, and transport. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is in the Armenian capital Yerevan for the talks. Armenia has been gradually moving closer to the EU since a partnership agreement was signed in 2021.

PULITZER PRIZE – The Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded in the United States. The Chicago Tribune was among the winners, recognised for its investigation into operations by the immigration enforcement agency ICE in American cities.

FOOTBALL – The Champions League semi-finals reach their second legs this week, with Arsenal hosting Atlético Madrid tonight, the first leg ended 1-1. Tomorrow, Bayern Munich face Paris Saint-Germain. In the Premier League, Manchester City dropped points in the title race with leaders Arsenal, drawing 3-3 with Everton. Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Nottingham Forest.
