The statement comes after RTL reported that Jeannot Waringo had completed his report on the Palace and submitted it to the Prime Minister.
Grand Duke Henri published a personal statement on Monday morning, expressing his indignation at the allegations made against his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, in an article published by LëtzebuergerLand last week. The Grand Duke, who is currently attending his brother-in-law's bedside in a Geneva hospital, asked why his wife was being subjected to attacks on her character without the opportunity to defend herself.
Update: Chamber of Deputies president Etgen answers questions on the Waringo report
He said he had complied with the Prime Minister's desire for transparency and modernity, but accused the media of distorting facts surrounding the Waringo report.
The Grand Duke wrote that he was proud of the Grand Duchess's unending fervour in fighting for the causes she supports, and praised the intelligence and energy she brings to her engagements. He also said he and his wife would continue to serve the Luxembourgish people, and asked for support for the hereditary Grand Ducal couple on their future path as parents.
Last June, former IGF director Jeannot Waringo began compiling his report on the internal management of the Palace following instructions from Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. The report was designed to cover the Palace budget, notably the use of public funds, as well as management and staff.
On Saturday, Luc Frieden said it was important to separate two things in discussions surrounding the report, which is focused on the internal machinations of the Court, not the monarchy. It was also not the function of the report to take a view on the position of the monarchy in society.
Grand Duke Henri's statement also did not take issue with the report itself, but rather the speculation which has been rife within the media surrounding the report.
It is not known what practical or concrete consequences will follow the Waringo report within the Palace. It is thought the report will be discussed within the Chamber and eventually published, but it is not known what format this will take.
The report will potentially influence propositions for the 2021 budget project. 10.6 million euros of funding was secured for the Palace in the 2020 budget.
