Amid the news that the average speed camera on the N11 will officially be launched in January comes a report of a different type of a camera: a first for the Grand Duchy.
Luxembourg's first red light camera is expected to be installed on Place de l'Etoile in the course of the next year.
The camera will no longer focus on drivers exceeding the maximum speed limit, but instead those ignoring red lights. Drivers will be flashed if they drive through a red light and can then expect a fine for the traffic violation.
Ministry for Mobility and Public Works' spokesperson Dany Frank confirmed the news to the Luxemburger Wort on Tuesday. The pilot project is due to launch at the end of 2020 and could then be expanded to other dangerous junctions in Luxembourg.
Earlier in May, the government presented its road safety national plan. Other such traffic enforcement cameras are likely to be installed on Rue du Schlammestee, which crosses the busy junction of the N3 between Frisange and Alzingen. The expected date for this camera is the beginning of 2022.
