In November 2016, a 36-year-old drug dealer was shot dead in Schlewenhof, while a few days later a 27-year-old prostitute suffered the same fate at Fräiheetsbam. The first murder was committed by the two men together, the second only by the older man, according to the prosecutor.
The defendants' lawyers had requested acquittals for their clients, but the prosecutor's office representative did not share this view, citing the importance of not forgetting the victims of the murders. The prosecutor went on to list clear facts in the case, such as the fact both victims received a shot to the head, from a weapon belonging to the main defendant and carrying traces of his DNA.
The main defendant was said to have been consuming drugs and under stress relating to debt at the time of the first murder. He sent a text message a few hours before the act, asking if the other defendant wanted to commit a murder, which proved the murder was planned, according to the prosecutor. He maintained it was certain that the main defendant carried out the shooting while the second defendant drove the vehicle, as there were no DNA traces belonging to the second defendant on the gun.
As a result, the prosecutor recommended a life sentence for the first defendant, and a 22 year sentence for the second.
The verdict is expected to be finalised on 8 January.
