Wreaths Across America5,000 wreaths placed at American cemetery in Hamm

The 'Wreaths Across America' organisation laid 5,000 wreaths at the American cemetery to commemorate soldiers who died in World War II.

500 volunteers, mostly US-citizens living in Luxembourg and bordering countries, took part in the project.

'Wreaths across America' was founded in 1992. This was only the second time they organised a wreath-placement ceremony outside of the United States. Last year, the ceremony took place in Normandy, and the organisation chose Luxembourg this year to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Ardennes offensive/Battle of the Bulge, which is coming up in December.

This year alone, a total of two million wreaths have been distributed in military cemeteries. The wreaths, which cost $15 each, are sponsored by private individuals and businesses.
