Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) deputy Laurent Mosar’s parliamentary question was sparked by his impression that there had been a rise in violent phone thefts.

However, when looking at data from the last three years, there is no discernible upward trend. 2023 had, indeed, a significantly lower number of reports, with 160; nevertheless, the year before (2022) had counted 220 occurrences, the same as last year’s.

These numbers only refer to the instances when violence was involved in a reported theft. The Ministry of Home Affairs was not able to define the overall amount of stolen phones, and the police do not have detailed statistics regarding phone theft trends.
