Luxembourg's unemployment rate has now reached unprecedented levels for the last decade, with the exception of the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. It rose to 6.5% in August, according to the latest ADEM report, compared to 6.3% in July.
The Grand Duchy now has 20,136 residents registered as job seekers - almost 2,000 more people than at the same time a year ago.
According to ADEM, the increase is most pronounced among the "most qualified" jobseekers. Mid-career workers (30-44 years old) are more affected than others.
Despite this rise in unemployment, which has been gradual but almost constant since spring 2022, there is no shortage of jobs in the Grand Duchy: more than 6,700 positions are currently declared vacant.
