Whether on the Troisvierges, Esch-sur-Alzette, or Metz lines, all CFL rail lines will at some point be closed for maintenance over a few days in 2019. Read on for the dates.
The CFL (Luxembourg's national railways) is pursuing its investment programme to improve its infrastructures. Citing reasons like "modernising and maintaining stations", "raising capacity", and "relieving congestion on the tracks". As a result, there will be many railway works over the course of the year.
While some of the railway works will take place over weekends, others will require partial closures during working weeks. The CFL has confirmed that there will be rail replacement buses during these times.
The weekend closures will affect particular sections of railway lines, such as the following: Rodange-Longwy, Luxembourg-Hollerich, Luxembourg-Arlon, Wecker-Trier, and Mersch-Troisvierges.
The longer closures, taking place over the course of several weeks, will affect the following sections: Ettelbruck-Troisvierges, Ettelbruck-Diekirch, Rodange-Virton, Oetrange-Trier, Esch-Rodange, and Luxembourg-Bettembourg.
Cross border
Cross-border workers will be significantly affected by the closures in July and August on the lines 60 and 90 between Luxembourg and Bettembourg. These will take place between 13 and 21 July and between 17 and 23 August.
There will also be no trains between Esch-sur-Alzette and Rodange between 25 May and 2 June.
As for those interested in the lines heading towards Belgium, the line between Luxembourg and Arlon will only be affected at weekends. However, there will be no trains between Rodange and Virton between 26 August and 14 December.
