Fancy a few days away, but don't want the stress of a long journey? We've got you covered!

Read on for some fantastic ideas on where to go for a holiday full of fun and adventure. And best of all – they're all close to home.

Glamping

There are lots of options for rural accommodation around Luxembourg. Many campsites are open during the warmer months only, but some have glamping options such as chalets, safari tents and yurts.

In Mondercange, you'll find a lovely little collection of cabins, all made with durable and sustainable materials. There are a handful of EcoLodges (affectionately known as MushRooms) in Useldange, giving easy access to cycling and hiking routes. Have a look at the stylish Domus chalets at the Europarks Kohnenhof in the Luxembourg Ardennes. Camping Martbusch in the Mullerthal offers a variety of lodges, motorhomes and cute little pods.

If you want that outdoor feeling but can't live without a coffee machine, you'll find a few options for safari tents in Diekirch, Mersch and Wiltz here.

Youth hostels

There are 9 youth hostels across the country and their slogan 'more than just beds' couldn't be truer. These fantastic establishments offer animation programmes, leisure activities and outdoor pursuits. If your family loves to stay active, this could be the perfect staycation. Go kayaking in Lultzhausen, bowling in Beaufort or have a go at the climbing wall at Echternach. All youth hostels have bikes to rent and the Melting Pot restaurants offer a varied menu using organic and local produce.

Farms

Luxembourg boasts much in the way of beautiful agricultural landscapes and there are several working farms offering various accommodation options. Near Clervaux, the Robbesscheier farm complex has been recently refurbished and offers 14 rooms with between 4 and 6 beds, each furnished by a local craftsman. There are many activities and workshops for children to join during the day.

Fromburg Farm near Echternach specialises in agritourism and has several holiday apartments on site. The owners invite their guests to harvest their own vegetables and have a well-stocked farm shop where you'll find more organic ingredients. The farm has a small petting zoo for children to enjoy as well as a trampoline and pedal tractors.

Castles, treehouses and floating pods

If you're looking for something a little more unique, you might want to stay in one of the treehouses in the Esch Animal Park. Equipped with all mod cons and accommodating up to 6 people, these wonderfully cosy cabins are nestled right in the middle of the wooded parkland!

For something equally magical, but a little more luxurious, head north to the Château d'Urspelt to stay in a castle! There are child-friendly meal options, family board games available to borrow, and cots upon request. If you're lucky, you might get the chance to escape to the spa for an hour or two.

And for somewhere really wacky, have a look at the hiking lodges along the Minett Trail in the south. There are lodges in 11 locations, all of which were chosen for their historical link. Discover a floating pod in Dudelange, a station wagon in the Fond-de-Gras, and a small residence in the castle gate of the Parc Merveilleux.

Life on the road

What about piling the whole family into a motorhome and heading off on a road trip around Luxembourg? You could do this easily by renting a vehicle. Beim Fiisschen in Heiderscheid has several campervans and motorhomes to rent, some of which allow you to install an isofix child seat or load up your bikes before heading off into the countryside – you can even bring the dog!

Webcamper in Canach boasts a huge range of vehicles to rent, from compact vans to luxury liners. They have lots of supplementary packages to choose from to make your trip more comfortable, including cleaning services, basic kitchen supplies, bike rental and even paddle boarding options.

Luxembourg City

If you live rurally and fancy some sightseeing in the city centre, look no further than these family-friendly options.

For those on a bigger budget, the eco-friendly Melia Hotel in Kirchberg enjoys fantastic views across the city and has several family rooms. DoubleTree by Hilton in Dommeldange is close to the city and has family rooms as well as an indoor swimming pool. There is a Novotel in the city centre, and another in Kirchberg which offers apartment suites.

It is of course worth taking a look on Booking.com or Airbnb if you want more value for money or need a bit more space. Apartsuites with bigger rooms, such as the Pétrusse Elite Suites near the Gare, or entire homes such as this three-bedroom condo in the Place d'Armes or this two-bedroom penthouse in the Ville Haute, might also offer cribs or highchairs to save you the hassle of bringing your own.
