We asked for your favourites once again, and you delivered. Here are the top 10 places in Luxembourg to enjoy the best nems, or spring rolls, according to RTL readers.

They come in many shapes and variations, and even their names differ depending on the country or region. Whether you call them nems, spring rolls, or something else entirely, these crispy favourites have long earned their place on restaurant tables across Luxembourg.

Often ordered as a starter in Asian restaurants, nems have their roots in Asian cuisines, including those of China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan. Over the decades, they have also become firmly established in Europe and the US, where countless variations are now available.

Of course, frozen spring rolls can be bought ready-made and cooked at home in a deep fryer or air fryer. But as with most things, they are best when freshly prepared by hand.

Just as the names differ, so do the methods of preparation. The pastry, filling, seasoning, and rolling technique can vary greatly from one country, region, or restaurant to another.

What they usually have in common is simple enough: a roll filled with vegetables and, often, meat such as pork, beef, or chicken, wrapped in pastry and fried until crisp. Add a good dipping sauce, and nems can be the perfect start to an Asian meal, or, in some cases, the highlight of the evening.

We counted the votes, and these are your top 10 places to enjoy great nems in Luxembourg.

All establishments that made it into the top 10 will receive a sticker recognising them as among Luxembourg's best. Around 1,000 people took part in the survey.

Readers' Choice Top 10: Best nems in Luxembourg

Rank 1: La Couronne Royale

Opening date: 15 May 1992
Address: 29 Avenue de la Gare, 4734 Pétange
Contact: 503379
Online: La Couronne Royale

Anyone from the Minett region, especially around Pétange, knows that La Couronne Royale is something of an institution among Chinese restaurants in Luxembourg. For almost 34 years, Chinese specialities have been served here continuously and with great success.

The heart and soul of this restaurant is impossible to miss the moment you walk in: the owner of Couronne Royale, Tsui-Sun, affectionately known as "Iko" by her many regular customers. It is immediately clear that Iko puts her whole heart into the restaurant. The hospitality and openness that greet you here can be felt before a single dish has even reached the table.

Iko immediately insisted that we be shown in the kitchen how their nems are made before we sat down to taste them. Naturally, this was done together with the owner herself, who is also very fond of eating nems. One of the secrets behind their nems is, believe it or not, beer.

A generous splash of, naturally, a beer from the south of the country, is added to the oil to give them a better flavour, the kitchen staff revealed.

The head chef has been cooking since he was 13, and does so with extraordinary passion, Iko told us. Before coming to Luxembourg, he worked in several renowned restaurants, including in Hong Kong. He now has 45 years of experience and remains as energetic as ever.

Before starting in Pétange in 1992, he also worked at Confucius in Luxembourg City, which, incidentally, also made it into our ranking's top 10 a little further down the list. Being allowed to accompany him as he worked in the kitchen was far from a given, as he prefers to work quietly, strictly, and without outsiders watching.

Iko was delighted by the Readers' Choice award and is extremely proud of her team, without whom none of this would be possible. She is also grateful to have so many loyal customers who have supported her for years.

This time, first place clearly goes to Couronne Royale in Pétange. Congratulations to the restaurant, which has been part of the south of the country for decades and will surely remain there for many years to come.

Rank 2: Thai Tae in Rumelange

Restaurant opened: 10 July 2025
Address: 13 Grand-Rue, L-3730 Rumelange
Contact: +352 621 626 124
Online: Thai Tae

Thai Tae on Rumelange's Grand Rue has not even been open for a year, and yet people already seem to be very enthusiastic, at least when it comes to its nems. Despite being such a young restaurant, it held its own against the competition and was voted into second place, which definitely says something after such a short time in business.

Thai Tae's manager, Dany Weis, believes this strong ranking is probably down to the quality of the products and the fact that everything is homemade. Weis said that his wife, who is from Thailand, puts "her whole heart" into the food served to customers at the restaurant, and that is something people can taste.

The rolls are also frequently ordered as a starter by many customers. They have clearly been embraced by people in Luxembourg, and have been for a long time.

The reason is easy to explain here too. Nems are easy to eat, they are not too heavy, and it is simple to order several and share them with others at the table. In other words, they are finger food par excellence.

Another secret to a good spring roll, according to Weis, is not to overload it with too many ingredients, but to focus on the essentials so that the flavour remains well balanced and light. People should be able to taste which ingredients are inside.

Thai Tae serves two kinds: a traditional Thai version with vegetables, and a version adapted more to the European market, made with chicken and curry.

The best thing is to try the nems in Rumelange for yourself. RTL users, at any rate, clearly see Thai Tae right near the top of the podium.

Rank 3: New Confucius in Luxembourg City, Merl

Restaurant opened: 2011 / originally 1978
Address: 187 Rue des Aubépines, L-1145 Merl, Luxembourg
Contact: +352 22 40 10
Online: Official site

For almost 15 years now, New Confucius has been based on the corner in Merl, Luxembourg City, directly opposite the Hospital Centre of Luxembourg (CHL). As owner Jun Qiao told us, he started working in restaurants at the age of 18 and has now been doing so for 38 years.

Before reopening its doors in Merl, the Chinese restaurant was located on Boulevard Royal in Luxembourg City. The restaurant first opened in 1978, almost 50 years ago.

It is immediately clear that Jun Qiao enjoys his work, despite the lasting effects of the Covid crisis, which he says are still being felt. He brings a great deal of passion to what he does and continues to place enormous value on fresh produce and handmade dishes.

Incidentally, almost all of the recipes come from Qiao's grandmother and are now being used by the restaurant's third generation. And with success, as the third place in our survey shows.

Neither the nems, nor anything else on the menu has been changed over all these years. The menu has remained the same since day one. Qiao says they are reluctant to adapt it, as they want to preserve the tradition behind the dishes.

At New Confucius, quality and preparation time are taken very seriously, and this also applies to their rolls. Even the dough is made in-house, while the filling consists of a mixture of vegetables, vermicelli noodles, and pork.

Qiao stresses that real Chinese nems are traditionally wrapped with a piece of mint in a lettuce leaf, and then enjoyed with the restaurant's homemade sauce.

Congratulations on third place. After all these years, New Confucius certainly seems to have done everything right.
