I heard about JS Mama's Dumpling from a friend who promised me I’d get really good-quality dumplings there. I also liked the idea that they only served dumplings for lunch (Mon–Fri, 11:45–14:00), because that usually means they do one thing and do it well. So, try it we did.
At JS Mama's Dumpling, they don't have ten different fillings to choose from. Instead, they focus on handmade pork and chicken dumplings and simply let you decide how you'd like to eat it.

The idea behind the place came from noticing how popular dumplings have become and feeling that it was the right time to introduce something different to Luxembourg. Their goal is to bring authentic Cantonese flavours from Hong Kong to the table.
The owners have been in Luxembourg's hospitality industry since 1979, while the current owner, who still prepares the dumplings herself, studied at culinary school in Hong Kong, specialising in Cantonese cuisine.
The recipes weren't developed overnight either. The team told me there was a lot of "trial and error" before they were happy with both the flavour and the texture. During lunch, they don't use the whole space of the actual restaurant (Mandarin Room).
Rather than filling every corner with tables, they’ve chosen to keep the number of seats limited so the quality never has to suffer.
They keep it simple and to the point: one pork and chicken filling, and you choose how you want to eat it. You can go for pan-fried dumplings, steamed dumplings, dumplings in soup, or spicy dumplings (€15.90).
They also serve xiao long bao (those famous steamed soup dumplings) as well as wontons, either in soup or with a spicy sauce, all for the same price.

They add a nice little touch: every dumpling order comes with a bowl of miso soup. I went for the pork dumplings in soup because... well – comfort food.
The broth was light, warming, and compliments the dumplings who actually are the star of the show.
The dough was really fresh, nice and chewy, only fresh made dough can be like that. It was a generous portion with the filling, which left me more than full by the end of it.
My friend went for the vegetarian fried noodles (€15.90). The dumplings are very much the focus here, and for now they don't offer a vegetarian dumpling option, so just keep that that's exactly what you want for lunch
If you're after a straightforward lunch and authentic handmade Cantonese dumplings, that's exactly what you'll get. JS Mama's Dumpling isn't trying to be a huge place with pages and pages of options. They cut straight to it! And sometimes, that's all you really need.
