Swiss operator Twiliner will launch a premium night-bus service in 2025 with Luxembourg’s Emile Weber Group, offering eco-friendly, train-like comfort.
From November 2025, Swiss transport company Twiliner will roll out a new overnight bus service connecting Luxembourg with several European destinations including Basel, Brussels, Amsterdam, Zurich, Rotterdam, and Barcelona.
The project is being developed in partnership with Luxembourg’s Emile Weber Group, and one of the very first Twiliner routes, running between Zurich and Amsterdam, will already begin operating in September 2025.
Luxembourg will not just serve as a stopover, but as a key hub in this cross-border mobility network, which for the first time will link these cities along a single overland route.
Twiliner is pitching the service as a greener alternative to short-haul flights, targeting travellers who want to explore Europe while keeping their carbon footprint low. According to the company, its buses emit 85% less CO₂e than planes. The buses will run on HVO diesel, a renewable fuel produced from waste fats and vegetable oils.
Banking on comfort and luxury
Comfort is a top priority for the company, with its 21 seats able to convert into beds at the push of a button, allowing passengers to sleep before reaching their destination. Inspired by business-class airline seating, these come with pillows and blankets to ensure a restful journey. Changing rooms are available on board, offering passengers additional privacy, while every seat is equipped with an electric outlet, a reading light and free Wi-Fi.
Coffee and water are complimentary, while snacks and drinks can be purchased from an onboard bar. With these features, Twiliner hopes to create a travel experience that rivals short-haul flights, but without the stress of airport queues and security checks.
Pricing and practical details
Bookings for November are now open, with a one-way trip from Luxembourg to Zurich priced at about €180 for the six-hour journey. Return tickets cost twice the one-way fare.
The luggage allowance mirrors that of airlines: one checked suitcase of up to 23kg with maximum dimensions of 80 by 50 by 35cm, plus one carry-on item not exceeding 5kg and 50 by 30 by 20cm. Larger items such as skis, surfboards and bicycles can also be accommodated..
However, unlink air travel, passengers are only required to turn up 15 minutes before departure.
Aiming to connect 25 European cities by 2028
At launch, the company will operate two key routes. The Zurich–Amsterdam line will include stops in Basel, Luxembourg, Brussels and Rotterdam, while the Zurich–Barcelona line will pass through Girona. Services will initially run several times a week, with daily departures planned as demand increases.
Looking further ahead, Twiliner aims to expand its night-bus network to 25 European cities by 2028. The only restriction for passengers is that children under the age of five are not permitted to travel, while older children may board "as long as they are familiar with long-distance journeys."
