Dancing is a wonderful way for kids to have fun, stay active, and learn new skills.
If you have a child who loves to dance, read on for some suggestions as to where they could get those toes a-tapping!
Many dance schools offer the first lesson for free. So, before you book, check if your child could have a trial session before signing up for a whole term.
Dance schools
There are some large, well established dance schools in Luxembourg offering a wide range of styles. FlashDance has studios in Bertrange and Ettelbruck, where they teach ballet, jazz, modern, tap, and hip hop, as well as some more niche styles such as Broadway musical theatre, breakdance and MTVideo for Kids. Also in Ettelbruck is the Elena Chorkina Dance School, with classes in ballet, jazz, and hip hop for children as young as three.
Helens Dance School in Limpertsberg offers ballet and contemporary classes to children of all ages, as well as a BabyJam for 4 to 5 year olds on Saturday afternoons. The Dance Factory in the City offers Baby and Parent classes for 2 to 4 year olds, as well as ballet and hip hop for the older ones.
The École de Danse Mireille Roulling in the Gare district offers ballet, modern, hip hop, and jazz for children from three years of age, as well as Ballroom and Latin classes for teens. In nearby Bonnevoie, n'be you has a contemporary vibe, with classes in modern dance and hip hop.
Rhythm and Soul hold classes in Beggen, ranging from ballet and modern to breakdance and hip hop. They also have an Afro Dance class for kids 15+. In Sandweiler, you'll find T M Dance who offer classes in ballet and modern dance. For little movers, The Little Gym in Bertrange has a class for 4 to 6 year olds on Saturdays.
In Strassen and Mamer, there are classes in ballet, jazz and hip hop at the École de Dance Sabrina Iacovazzi. For something a little bit different, Rhythmo-Cats run classes in Limpertsberg in Dynamic Dance and Art Gymnastics.
Ballet classes
For more serious dance classes, check out the Cathy Moes Dance School by Li Marteling in Merl, whose teachers guide students through a graded system. They also have recreational classes and baby and toddler groups.
The Real Academy of Dance in Kirchberg is run by Ana Maria, a qualified teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance. They offer a graded syllabus from pre-primary to advanced, and they prepare the most studious of ballerinas for a career in dance.
Dancing around the world
If you are looking for something a little more niche, or perhaps some traditional dance classes from your home country, you could take a look at the following classes.
For Indian dance lessons, head over to the Dance Factory on a Tuesday evening to learn with LuxIndancers, who will introduce you to Bollywood Beats, South Indian Kuthu with a bit of Bhangra.
Irish dancing lessons are held at Top Squash for children, covering step dancing, set dancing, and technique. More info is on the Comhaltas page – the home of Irish music and dance in Luxembourg.
Capoeira is a dance-like martial art from Brazil with a strong community in Luxembourg. Guaranteed to get kids moving with its catchy percussive beats, children from as young as two can sign up to Capoeira classes in the city or Esch-sur-Alzette.
For another Latin American influenced dance experience, check out Zumba classes with Sandra in Pétange, who offers Zumba for kids (7-11) and teens (12-18).
Unique Dance School invites you on a journey through African Dance, although this is suited mostly to older teenagers. More info on their Facebook page.
Finally, check what's on offer in your municipality. Some towns organise children's dance classes as part of their fitness programmes at a very reduced rate. If you are a resident of Differdange, it costs just €35 a semester for 'Initiation to Dance' aimed at 5 to 10 year olds in Oberkorn. So it's definitely worth having a quick google!
