On Friday evening, Australian indie rock band Royel Otis sent the audience at Rockhal practically into a trance – confirming the current hype surrounding the band.

It is not the first time that the duo from Sydney has found its way to the Grand Duchy. From the intimate setting at last year’s Beautiful Decay Festival to the Club at Rockhal, the number of spectators has grown significantly, but it was probably the last chance to see Royel Otis in a still ‘small’ setting.

The audience was enthusiastic from the very first minute and let itself be carried away into their world of characteristic, slightly melancholic sounds. In 2019, Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic founded the band, and since then their career has been on a steep upward trajectory. It has been a short but already intense career that, according to singer Otis, is at times overwhelming, as he admitted in an interview with RTL Today Radio.

The mix of older and newer tracks from their recent album Hickey was ideal. The band is also known for playing covers, and they performed Linger by The Cranberries in a very gentle and moving way, while everyone was singing along and dancing during Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

An evening that definitely lived up to expectations, if you had any to begin with. If the band should find its way back to Luxembourg again, it will certainly be on a bigger stage with an even larger audience.
