Continuing to push the boundaries of horror-inspired metal with cinematic flair and a razor-sharp wit, Boston metal outfit Ice Nine Kills sort of answer fan theories on AI and the future.

Fronted by Spencer Charnas, the band rose to prominence with The Silver Scream and The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood, delivering anthemic tracks like the gold-certified A Grave Mistake and fan favourite The Great Unknown. Their immersive world – the INKverse – extends beyond music into graphic novels, true-crime parodies, the Psychos Only fan club, and the annual Silver Scream Convention.

Having toured with Slipknot and Metallica, and earned accolades like Rock Sound’s Best Live Act, Ice Nine Kills blends extreme metal, melody, and theatrical storytelling like no one else.

Their latest single, The Great Unknown, dives headfirst into dystopian sci-fi, drawing inspiration from The Matrix. The high-concept video stars Joel David Moore and features returning cult icons Terry Kiser and Bill Moseley, placing the band inside a reality-bending simulation where perception falters and chaos reigns.

Meanwhile, fans have been spiraling into speculation following Spencer’s cryptic online behavior and rumors of an AI replacement - fueled by conspiracy theorist and longtime INK antagonist Roy Merkin during a controversial Silver Scream Convention panel. Though the band has remained silent on the rumors, the lines between fiction and reality seem increasingly blurred.

Charnas added fuel to the fire with a surreal, data-driven “statement” on the single, suggesting The Great Unknown is “optimized” for genre expansion in “simulation conditions.” The release coincides with their Nightmare on the Ninth limited-edition merch drop and caps off a massive two-year stadium run with Metallica, as well as their sold-out Silver Scream-A-Thon headline tour.
