Fresh off joining the Ghostly International roster, Montréal's TOPS return with Bury the Key, their first full-length album since 2020, arriving 22 August.

*TOPS have been around for ages - you might not have heard of them, though. That mistake can now be corrected.

Known for their melodic precision and emotional honesty, the band – Jane Penny, David Carriere, Marta Cikojevic, and Riley Fleck – lean into darker textures this time, sharpening their soft-focus indie pop with a newfound edge they jokingly call evil TOPS".

The album explores the tension between desire, self-destruction, and fleeting highs, drawing from real-life introspection and late-night encounters. Lead single Chlorine sets the tone, blending nostalgia, toxicity, and irresistible bad decisions into a shimmering ballad.

Penny, reflecting on bar nights and frozen Edmonton winters, calls the song a meditation on poison – both chemical and emotional – and the people we can’t quit.

Since emerging from Montréal's DIY scene, TOPS have mastered a sound equal parts sleek and vulnerable, carried by Penny's featherlight vocals and Carriere's glossy hooks.

With Cikojevic expanding her role and Fleck pushing the rhythmic limits, Bury the Key captures a band fully in sync, polishing their pop instincts while keeping their raw heart intact – a testament to years of hard-earned chemistry and taste.
