One of the most compelling and shape-shifting bands of the last decade, Wolf Alice are taking over Artist Hour tonight ahead of their return to Luxembourg this November.
The band have just announced a brand new album, The Clearing, due out on 29 August via RCA. It’s the long-awaited follow-up to their Mercury Prize-nominated Blue Weekend and was written in the Seven Sisters neighbourhood of north London before being recorded in Los Angeles with producer Greg Kurstin.
Leading the new record is the single Bloom Baby Bloom, a lush, shapeshifting track that marks both a continuation and evolution of their sound. Speaking about the song, Ellie Rowsell said, “I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman.” She added, “I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the ‘girl singer in band’ trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”

From the gritty power of Giant Peach to the atmospheric sweep of The Last Man on Earth, Wolf Alice have never stuck to one lane. Their music blends intimacy with intensity, soaring vocals with snarling distortion and their live shows are every bit as dynamic. Moving from fragile beauty to full-blown chaos in a single set, the band have carved out a space entirely their own.
Wolf Alice return to Luxembourg on 21 November for a headline show at den Atelier. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Thursday 23 May, at 10am.
