Thalamus Project, the genre bending three-piece, joined Ethan Carey for a wide ranging chat and live performance.

Drive Time with Ethan Carey (Mon–Thurs 4–7pm) on Today Radio regularly shines a light on the local talent shaping Luxembourg's rich and ever-evolving music scene. One recent standout session featured a genre-blending band that has been steadily turning heads both here and beyond: Thalamus Project.

During a special acoustic set live on Today Radio, the band treated listeners to reimagined versions of their intricate compositions, each one showcasing their powerful musicality and deep sense of narrative. The performance, stripped back yet no less immersive, provided the perfect backdrop for an in-depth chat with Ethan about the ideas that fuel their work.

Formed in Luxembourg, the Thalamus Project is an electroacoustic trio consisting of Oliver Glassl (guitar, vocals, synthesizer, didgeridoo, loop machine), Cyril Yabroudi (bass, vocals), and Massimo Savo (drums). Together, they explore the frontier where sound meets consciousness; a concept rooted in the group’s very name. The 'thalamus' is the part of the brain responsible for relaying sensory perception to consciousness, and the band leans into that metaphor to create music that’s both cerebral and emotive.

After releasing a live album in 2022, the band has continued evolving, venturing further into themes around the human experience, especially how thoughts and perceptions connect to time, matter, and energy. Their music seamlessly blends elements of progressive rock, jazz, world music, psychedelia, and American folk into multi-layered soundscapes that invite listeners on a journey through the mind.
