Irish post-punk energy is making waves, and Gurriers are riding those waves with the kind of energy and confidence that can only lead to big things. Today Radio's Sam Steen jumped on a Zoom with frontman Dan Hoff for a great conversation about the band’s journey, their raw, emotional music, and what’s coming next.

Gurriers are a band that have been a long time in the making, early musical experiences helped frontman Dan Hoff to figure out the kind of music that he wanted to make and a couple of years ago, the stars aligned with the end of one project in one hand and a sudden and unprecedented amount of free time in the other. Dan shared how Gurriers formed during lockdown, a time of uncertainty that fueled their creativity, "It's definitely one of those albums that possibly would have never been made if it wasn't for the, you know, global catastrophe" he explained.

"It’s the age-old thing that most bands talk about. It’s like catharsis, you know?" Dan continued. "There’s not many other opportunities in life to go out and jump up and down and act like an idiot on stage."

For Gurriers, live shows are an essential part of their identity. "It’s become a thing now where, for this half an hour in a festival or an hour show that we’re playing, let’s just forget about everything else that’s happened in the world and just enjoy ourselves," Dan said. "People are still mad to go out and see a band, I think, more than ever after COVID."

He also noted how audiences are more engaged than ever: "A lot of people go and see the support bands now too. We had these good opportunities to get out there and play with big bands and actually pick up a lot of fans. Before COVID, there wasn’t that opportunity, a lot of people would wait in the pub down the road before the gig, so they just wouldn’t see you."

Gurriers' debut album, Come and See, was released back in September 2024 and has been getting rave reviews. The record is a fierce and unrelenting showcase of their post-punk energy, packed with sharp-edged riffs, raw emotion, and anthemic hooks that demand to be played loud. Tracks like Des Goblin and Top Of The Bill highlight the band's ability to balance chaos and melody, making Come and See a must-listen for fans of the genre.

And if you want to experience their raw energy in person, you’re in luck! Gurriers will be bringing their intense live show to Luxembourg as part of the Out Of The Crowd Festival at Kulturfabrik on 19 April. Tickets are available now, and Today Radio will also be giving away tickets to the festival on 31 March so be sure to tune in.
