12 Luxembourgish artists have come together for a compilation Christmas album, which includes seven original songs and five cover versions.
What would Christmas be without proper music to get into the festive mood? 12 Luxembourgish artists have risen to the occasion and come together to release a compilation album called "Artists for Artists: Christmas Doheem (Lockdown Edition)".
Steven Pitman is the man behind the project and elaborates on the diverse field of artists represented on the CD: "The 12 artists on the album all work in the Grand Duchy. Lata Gouveia, Sascha Ley, Kid Colling, Sarah Candle, Francisco Fernandez, Fred Barreto, Gregório, Kinga Rose, Stephany Ortega, Christophe Reitz, Cheyenne Janas, and myself. We wanted to do something of value now that we're getting closer to the end of the year. And we were more than happy to be supported by the Ministry for Culture, which helped us cover the production costs."
Seven of the 12 tracks on the album are original songs exclusively written for the occasion, while the remaining five are cover versions of Christmas classics. Adding to the eclectic nature of the project, the songs are sung in different languages.
Pitman notes that there is another motivation behind the project: "Once the new lockdown got announced and it became apparent that every single one of our events will be cancelled, I first thought about organising an online show. However, they are not very profitable, so a CD is a better way of supporting artists in this time of crisis. Although streaming services have become more mainstream than physical copies, I thought a CD is still a great Christmas gift."
The pandemic has already taken a great toll on the music industry, which is why profits from the album sales will help preserve the endangered scene. Pitman thus makes a final appeal to major corporations and firms in the country to consider the album as a Christmas present for employees or clients.
"Artists for Artists" is already available online and will be sold in all Cactus branches starting tomorrow. For more information on the album, visit http://artistsforartists.lu.
