RCL, who compete in Germany’s top division, will use the fixture as preparation for the demanding second half of their campaign. After an extended winter break, the friendly provides a valuable opportunity to regain match sharpness ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

Founded in 1869, Oxford University RFC is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world. Cambridge University RUFC followed shortly after in 1872. While this fixture features an alumni/select side rather than the current university teams, it nonetheless carries the prestige and heritage associated with the historic Oxford–Cambridge rugby tradition.

The visiting squad includes players competing at a high level in England, including the Championship and National League divisions, ensuring strong opposition for the Luxembourg side.

Head coach Antoine Alric welcomed the occasion: “It’s a great opportunity for us. It’s an important game to prepare for the second half of the season. We’ve had quite a long break, so it’s a chance to get minutes under the belt. The squad is excited, it’s quality opposition and it will help us.”

For Matthew Dennis-Soto, who completed his master’s degree at the University of Oxford, the match carries added significance. He is set to feature for both teams, playing one half for each. “Oxbridge isn’t just a pub side that’s rolled out of nothing, it’s a group of lads who have played very good level of rugby. they’ve been handpicked to come across and play this game which is also a testament to Luxembourg’s growth, a sign that we’re going in the right direction.”

Once the league campaign resumes, RCL face an intense schedule – nine matches in eleven weeks, including national team commitments – making this gala fixture ideal preparation as they aim to secure their status in Germany’s top division.

Kick-off is at 1pm. Entry is free, with food and drink available on site. Post-match entertainment will include live coverage of the Six Nations fixtures in the clubhouse, promising a full day of rugby at the Josy Barthel.
