The Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) announced on Tuesday afternoon that Jeff Strasser has been appointed the new national coach.

The 50-year-old signed a contract running until the end of 2026. Strasser, who earned 98 caps for the Red Lions, last coached Progrès Niederkorn, winning the Luxembourg Cup with the club in 2024. He had been without a team since the start of this year.

From 1993 to 2010, Strasser was a key figure in the national squad, scoring seven goals in 98 appearances. His debut came in a 1–3 defeat against Greece on 12 October 1993 at Stade Josy Barthel, while his final match was a 0–2 loss to France in Metz on 12 October 2010.

Between 2009 and 2019, he held the record as Luxembourg's most-capped player before being overtaken by Mario Mutsch and Laurent Jans.

During his 19-year playing career, Strasser featured for FC Metz and Racing Strasbourg in France, as well as 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany. His last club abroad was Grasshoppers Zurich, before returning to Luxembourg with Fola Esch in 2010. He initially coached the team together with Cyril Serredszum, later taking sole charge from 2012 to 2017 and securing two league titles.

In September 2017, Strasser was appointed head coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 2. Bundesliga in Germany, but health issues brought an early end to his tenure after 11 matches. He later returned to Luxembourg, managing Fola Esch, Swift Hesperange, and Jeunesse Esch, before taking over at Progrès Niederkorn.
