The RCL has made history by electing Giulia Iannucci as its first woman president, marking a significant milestone for the rugby club and highlighting its commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the sport.

Giulia Iannucci officially stepped into the role of Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) President on 2 July, and will lead the club alongside a newly appointed leadership team. Her election marks the first time a woman is at the helm of the RCL, a significant step in showing that Rugby is, indeed, a sport for everyone.Tony Whiteman and Craig Griffiths have been named Vice Presidents, with Chris Gill taking over as Secretary, Ian Dennis as Treasurer, and Alessandro La Rosa stepping in as Deputy Treasurer.

In a statement, Iannucci described her new role as an honour, calling RCL “a vibrant community built on rugby’s core values of respect, camaraderie, and integrity.” She pledged to build on the club’s strong foundations and continue driving growth across all teams, from its youth and women’s squads to its senior sides, while strengthening ties with the wider community.

Founded in Luxembourg City, Rugby Club Luxembourg is one of the country’s oldest and largest rugby organisations. Long known for welcoming players of all backgrounds and skill levels, the club says it remains dedicated to making the sport accessible and inclusive for everyone.

This commitment to inclusion carries on the momentum from the previous board under the stewardship of Paolo Tarakdjian, Giovanni Bertino and Mik Engbork who, over the last six years, were instrumental in helping the club grow.

Initiatives such as the club’s dedicated Rugby Ladies Day reflect its push to engage more women and girls in the game, an effort now further reinforced by Iannucci’s election.
