The Luxembourg Hockey Club women's team wrapped up their journey at the EuroHockey Club Challenge I 2025 in Alanya, Turkey with a well-deserved and hard-fought victory over Europa FC Hockey Club (Gibraltar).
The match, played on Monday, 21 April, was the decider for the 5th to 7th place rankings, and the ladies of the Luxembourg Hocky Club stepped onto the pitch with nothing to lose, but everything to prove.
After two tough defeats in the group stage, the team came out at full intensity for their final game. The match kicked off at 9.30am, and from the very first whistle, the Luxembourg side showed their determination and hunger for redemption.
Facing an equally fired-up Gibraltar team, the match was tense and closely contested. But, the pressure and resilience of the Luxembourg squad paid off. In the 39th minute, Daniele Holper opened the scoring after a brilliant interception and carry by Elena Castagnino, who drove the ball into the circle and set up the perfect chance.
The momentum stayed with the red-and-white, and in the 54th minute, Delfina Orguet sealed the victory with a second goal. A rising star of the team, Delfina's performance throughout the tournament earned her the well-deserved recognition as Best Young Player of the Tournament.
The team has also highlighted the performance of Géraldine Berre, Luxembourg's goalkeeper. Géraldine only took on the role of goalie at the beginning of 2025 when the team found itself without a dedicated keeper. Her performance over the course of the tournament was nothing short of exceptional. Stepping up selflessly for her teammates, she made key saves and anchored the defence with confidence.
In the end, the team's determination helped them secure 5th place.
