Girls’ rugby took a major step forward in Luxembourg as young players from local clubs hit the national stage during recent international matchdays.
Young players from RCL Girlz, St George’s, and Walferdange rugby clubs took to the pitch at the Stade de Luxembourg recently, showing off their talent and passion for the sport during demonstration matches held around the Luxembourg men’s national team fixtures.
The matches, which took place on 29 March ahead of Luxembourg’s game against Sweden, and again on 5 April before the Poland match, put the spotlight on the fast-growing world of girls’ rugby in the country.
Playing in front of over 1,000 fans, the girls brought energy and enthusiasm that didn’t go unnoticed. The games weren’t just warm-ups – they were statements about the rise of women’s sport and the role rugby can play in empowering young athletes.
“We’re excited to see so many girls involved in rugby and performing so well”, said Jeff Boulot, President of the Luxembourg Rugby Federation. “These matches are a great way to celebrate the growth of girls’ rugby in Luxembourg and to inspire more young women to join the sport.”
The showcase games were part of a broader effort by local clubs and schools to grow the sport at the grassroots level. For the players, it was a chance to play on the country’s biggest stage. For the fans, it was a glimpse of the next generation of rugby talent.
With continued support from the federation and local communities, girls’ rugby in Luxembourg is picking up momentum – and these recent matchday moments were another step forward in making the game more accessible and visible for young women across the country.
