Patrizia van der Weken has made history once again, claiming bronze in the 60 metres at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

The Luxembourger clocked an impressive 7.07 seconds, securing third place behind Swiss sprinter Mujinga Kambundji (7.04s) and Italy’s Zaynab Dosso (7.06s).

This marks van der Weken’s second major international medal in just two weeks, after winning bronze at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Remarkably, the podium was identical in both competitions, with Kambundji, Dosso, and van der Weken finishing in the same order.

A historic achievement for Luxembourg

With her World Championship bronze, van der Weken has written Luxembourg’s name in the history books. No Luxembourger had ever won a medal at an indoor World Championships before, making this a groundbreaking moment for national athletics.

Smooth path to the final

Van der Weken’s journey to the final was dominant. She won her semi-final heat in 7.12 seconds, narrowly edging out Kambundji in a photo finish. Earlier on Saturday morning, she had qualified for the semi-finals with a time of 7.21 seconds, finishing second in her heat.
