In a major announcement, Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) has confirmed that the remainder of their home matches in the 1. Bundesliga will be played at Luxembourg’s iconic Stade Josy Barthel.
RCL has had a promising start to the season, especially considering they are competing at the highest level in Germany against teams with significantly larger budgets. This move to a prestigious stadium is sure to excite rugby fans across the Grand-Duchy.
Their first match at the stadium will take place on Saturday, 26 October, against four-time champions RG Heidelberg. Despite RCL’s efforts to postpone the match due to a scheduling conflict with Luxembourg’s national team fixture in Lithuania—where many key RCL players will be involved—the team will face Heidelberg with a restricted squad.

The key date for fans to mark is 23 November, which will be the official launch of RCL’s ambitious new venture with a “Super Saturday” event at Stade Josy Barthel. The day will feature four matches, starting with the U14 and U16 teams taking on RC Soignies, one of Belgium’s top clubs.
Following that, the U18s will play a local derby against CSCE in front of what is expected to be a large crowd. The main event will see RCL’s senior team face off against the current German champions, known for their fast-paced and physical style of play. Though RCL lost their last encounter with this team 48-3, they demonstrated resilience, showing they are ready to compete at this level.
After five matches this season, RCL recently celebrated their first win, a dominant 39-0 away victory against RSV Köln. As the newest team in the league, they have faced stiff competition but have consistently shown they can hold their own. The addition of Stade Josy Barthel as their home ground will undoubtedly aid their continued development and provide a boost as they take on the challenges of top-tier rugby.
The upcoming fixtures, especially the Super Saturday event, will be pivotal in testing the team’s growth. With the support of local fans, RCL is well-positioned to make a strong impact both on and off the field.
