Luxembourgish triathlete and 2023 European champion Jeanne Lehair was forced to drop out of the race on Wednesday morning after suffering a mechanical bicycle problem.
All of Luxembourg's eyes were on 28-year-old Jeanne Lehair, the 2023 European champion, as she was vying for Olympic glory in the contest of 1,500m swimming, 40km cycling, and 10km running. Initial reports mistakenly indicated that Lehair was forced to drop out after suffering a fall, but it was later confirmed to RTL that she did in fact have mechanical issues that meant the end to her aspirations.
RTL later spoke to Luxembourg delegation head Raymong Conzemius, who explained that one of Lehair's shoe laces got stuck in the chain of her bicycle, which caused an irreparable defect and forced her to abandon the triathlon.
While the men's Olympic triathlon had to be rescheduled due to poor water quality in the Seine, the women's triathlon went ahead as planned on Wednesday morning.
