The Luxembourg international was visited by police immediately following the team's victory over Liechtenstein on Saturday, for reasons which remain undisclosed.
Ahead of Luxembourg's clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday came the surprising announcement that Vincent Thill and Gerson Rodrigues had been excluded from the team sheet. It has since emerged that the latter was visited by police on Saturday following the team's win over Liechtenstein in the European qualifiers.
Although the official line is that coach Luc Holtz had left the Red Lions' striker out of the squad due to disciplinary reasons, the public prosecutor's office confirmed to RTL that officers had approached Rodrigues upon disembarking the bus at the Stade de Luxembourg on Saturday afternoon, and that he had spoken to police immediately following the game.
It is unclear whether Rodrigues' disciplinary actions were related to the police discussion. The Dynamo Kiev striker, who provided an assist and a goal in Luxembourg's 2-0 win over Liechtenstein, is no stranger to exclusion for disciplinary reasons, having been left out of the international squad on several occasions in the past. It is thought that he missed a team meal and training on Sunday, leading to his exclusion.
