Up until June 30th, you can opt for an individual or collective taxation!

In light of the ongoing pandemic and numerous lockdown measures, the deadlines for filing your tax return have been extended. Thus, the tax return for the year 2019 can still be submitted by March 31st, 2021 and last year’s tax return (2020) can be submitted up until June 30th, 2021

This also means, that up until June 30th, 2021, married couples or couples who are in a civil union can opt for one of the following tax options:

  • joint taxation based on tax class 2, as done in the past;
  • pure individual taxation, for which each partner will pay taxes on his income based on tax class 1;
  • individual taxation with a reallocation of income.

Married taxpayers or taxpayers in a civil union must choose between collective or individual taxation by means of a joint application that each partner must sign. If no application is filed, joint taxation continues to be applied.

You can complete the form online via www.guichet.lu or return a paper copy to the Tax Administration.

You are now probably asking yourself which method of taxation would be better you? Collective or individual taxation?

The LCGB will advise you on the best option for your personal situation. The LCGB also helps you with tax deductions and offers free assistance to its members in completing the tax return.
