Two new PET scanners inaugurated at CHL

Two new PET scanners, primarily used for cancer diagnosis, have been inaugurated at the hospital centre in Luxembourg City this week, in the presence of health minister Martine Deprez

The scanners have been 100% operational since mid-October and have already contributed to a significant reduction in patient wait times, dropping the wait from a month to two to three days. Each machine can accommodate a maximum capacity of 20–35 patients per day, allowing the hospital to scan up to 70 people per day.

The old machine was prone to breaking down and most recently was out of order in early October. In mid-October the hospital sought a replacement scanner on loan. The old PET scanner had broken down twice as much this year as it did in 2022, and four times as much as it broke down in 2020.

Luxembourg’s 2026 state budget forecasts a €1.49 billion

  • During his budget speech at the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday, Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) MP Maurice Bauer stressed that a dynamic and diversified economy is essential to finance Luxembourg’s welfare state.
  • The 2026 state budget forecasts a central government deficit of €1.49 billion – approximately €400 million more than projected last year. Despite what Finance Minister Gilles Roth referred to in October as “more difficult times”, Bauer assured Parliament that the CSV-DP coalition government intends to maintain investment in the country and its residents. He outlined several recommendations for the government’s fiscal approach.
