Netflix & Sony Pictures Sign Major Global Deal

Netflix has struck a multi-year global deal with Sony Pictures that will see Netflix exclusively stream Sony’s films for the first 18 months after their theatrical and video-on-demand windows, including titles like Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and The Legend of Zelda adaptation.

This agreement strengthens Netflix’s premium film catalogue worldwide and gives subscribers earlier access to big studio films than ever before.

The deal rolls out region by region throughout 2026 and represents a major shift in how big movies find their way to streaming audiences. It also complements Netflix’s broader content acquisition strategy, coming as the platform moves toward absorbing Warner Bros. Discovery’s assets.

First Look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft on Prime Video

Amazon’s Prime Video has released striking first images of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series, produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken.

Turner channels the classic video-game look - complete with the signature teal tank and braided ponytail - signalling a faithful yet fresh take on the iconic adventurer.

The star-studded cast also includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and Celia Imrie, with production underway toward a late 2026 or early 2027 launch.

The show’s early visuals and pedigree have already stirred excitement among fans of the franchise and TV audiences alike.

Streaming Lineup This Week Includes Game of Thrones Prequel & Big Netflix Originals

This week’s streaming offerings bring a wave of high-profile content: Netflix debuts The Rip, a crime thriller starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and Apple TV+ premieres Season 2 of Hijack with Idris Elba.

HBO Max also launches A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a Game of Thrones prequel set a century before the original saga.

Across platforms there’s plenty of variety - from reality and documentary fare like Pole to Pole with Will Smith to drama series like Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Tell Me Lies on Hulu.

It’s a reminder that January 2026’s streaming slate is already diverse and compelling for all tastes.
