Justine Howarth and Ornella Ulrich from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined the Sam Steen Show on RTL Today Radio this morning to discuss the initiative, which will support Banque Alimentaire Luxembourg and the people it serves across the country.
The collection takes place on Saturday, June 20th, from 10:00 to 14:00, at the church's building on Route d'Arlon in Strassen.
While Luxembourg is often viewed as one of Europe's wealthiest countries, food insecurity remains a reality for some families. That's where organisations such as Banque Alimentaire Luxembourg play a vital role.
"Banque Alimentaire has already established a system to get food to those who are in need," Justine explained. "We're hoping to supplement that and help them reach even more families here in Luxembourg."
Organisers are asking people to bring non-perishable food items with a good shelf life.
Suggested donations include:
"As long as it has a shelf life, that's what they're looking for," Justine said.
The collection has been designed to be as simple as possible, with volunteers on hand to receive donations throughout the day.
"It's really a drop-and-go system," she explained. "People can pull up, hand over their donations and be on their way."
While the church participates in international humanitarian projects, they stressed the importance of supporting local communities too.
"We think it's important to reach the ones in need in the community locally," they said. "That can have a real impact."

Donations will go directly to Banque Alimentaire Luxembourg, helping support families and individuals in need across the Grand Duchy.
