LIMPERTSBERG STABBING – Police launched major operations around Limpertsberg and Bridel yesterday afternoon after a knife attack left one woman dead and another critically injured. One suspect was arrested, following a police manhunt. According to information from French media, the deceased woman came from the French Moselle area. The motive is still unknown.

LGBTQIA+ IN SCHOOLS – Luxembourg schools are introducing unisex toilets and phasing out urinals as part of new measures to promote gender diversity. Following a major public debate in 2024, sparked by two opposing petitions, the Parliamentary Family Affairs Committee says LGBTQIA+ topics will remain in classrooms, with new teaching guides and training for educators.

DOMMELDANGE MURDER TRIAL – As the trial of a 66-year-old Dommeldange man accused of murdering his wife in September 2023 comes to an end, the public prosecutor’s office announced they are seeking a life sentence. The man has consistently testified that the act was not premeditated, however, police records paint a picture that indicates there was a clean-up plan in place prior to the event.

World

UKRAINE WARA Russian drone strike on a passenger train in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region has killed at least four people and injured several others. Around 300 passengers were aboard at the time of the attack. President Zelensky has condemned the incident as terrorism. Deaths and injuries from Russian attacks are also being reported from other places in Ukraine.

GREENLAND CRISIS – French President Emmanuel Macron hosts the prime ministers of Denmark and Greenland in Paris today to discuss US annexation plans for Greenland. The talks will also address Arctic security and the territory’s economic and social development.

DUTCH ELECTIONS – Three months after Dutch elections, a minority government coalition is taking shape. The pro-European D66, Christian Democrats, and right-liberal VVD will form a government led by Rob Jette. At 38, he would become the Netherlands’ youngest-ever prime minister. The coalition agreement will be unveiled on Friday.

US STRIKES – The first lawsuits have been filed against the US government over fatal military attacks on boats in the Caribbean. Families of two victims are seeking damages in a Boston court, claiming their relatives were fishermen returning to Trinidad and Tobago when struck by US forces targeting suspected drug traffickers.

TENNIS – Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has reached the semi-finals after defeating world number two Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-1 in the Australian Ope. American Jessica Pegula also advanced, beating compatriot Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 7-6. Carlos Alcaraz also swept into the semi-finals for the first time after beating home hope Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2, 6-1.

FOOTBALL– It’s Matchday 8 in the Champions League tonight. Among tonight’s matches, you can watch the match Paris St Germain vs Newcastle live on RTL at 9pm.

WINTER OLYMPICS – Luxembourg’s Olympic Committee has just announced that the country will be represented by two athletes at the Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy in February. Skiers Gwyneth Ten Raa and Mathieu Osch will compete in the slalom and giant slalom between 14 and 17 February.

We have some early morning fog to keep everyone on their toes, but after lunch it’s all clouds and rain. They won’t go away in the evening, but it should be a bit drier by then. Temperature-wise, expect a minimum between 1 and 3°C, and a max around 3–5°C in the afternoon.
