RISKS FLAGGED – The Council of State has flagged legality risks in two draft Grand Ducal regulations meant to replace the National Health Fund (CNS) and Luxembourg Association of Doctors and Dentists (AMMD) convention. It ruled that prescription validity, sick note limits, and fee restrictions require a clear legal basis in the Social Security Code before enforcement.
PETROL TUMBLES – Some welcome news on the forecourts today as drivers in Luxembourg will benefit from notable fuel price reductions overnight. 95-octane petrol fell by 9.5 cents per litre, while 98-octane petrol tumbled 10.1 cents, now costing €2.015 per litre. Diesel also fell, though less substantially, down 3.8 cents and heating oil dropped 3.6 cents per litre.
DAIRY DEAL – Fifty of the 68 Prolek dairy farms have agreed to supply milk to Luxlait after Lactalis ended its contracts with Luxembourg producers. Of the remaining farms, some will join other dairies, while around six plan to leave dairy farming. Ten are expected to supply Dutch company Royal A-ware from April 2027.
KOREA TENSIONS – Seoul's military has demanded an apology from North Korea, blaming them for a recent explosion in the demilitarised zone that severely injured three South Korean soldiers, a charge Pyongyang denies. Seoul and Pyongyang remain technically at war since the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.
AI SELF-REGULATION – US President Donald Trump has announced that top tech executives have signed the "White House Accord", a morally binding, non-legally enforceable agreement to self-regulate artificial intelligence. Trump also confirmed he is officially renaming the technology to "super intelligence" (SI) across the federal government.
COCAINE SWAP – Fiji detectives are investigating a massive drug heist after 39 bricks of seized cocaine were stolen from a high court evidence vault and replaced with baking flour. Forensic testing confirmed the entire haul was swapped under the nose of police, sparking urgent government concern over the Pacific drug trafficking route.
ENGLAND WIN – Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane were on target again as England saw off 10-man Czech Republic 2-0 to get their Nations League campaign up and running on Tuesday. Thomas Tuchel's side lost an entertaining opener 3-2 against world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday while the Czechs were beaten by Croatia.
WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN – Rugby's biggest World Cup kicks off in 12 months with a record 24 teams clashing over six weeks in Australia, and ominous back-to-back champions South Africa are already staking their claim to another title. The 11th and most ambitious edition of the global showpiece gets underway on October 1 next year, expanded from 20 nations and on course to smash attendance records.
MARATHON RECORD – Marathon world record holder Sabastian Sawe believes running under 1:59 is possible, declaring "there are no limits" for the sport. The 31-year-old Kenyan, who shattered the two-hour barrier in London, is currently sidelined with a fractured leg but targets the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
