MOTORCYLCIST DEATHA 30-year-old motorcyclist lost his life yesterday afternoon after crashing on the Route de Trèves in Senningerberg. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30pm following reports of an accident on a bend. Despite immediate intervention by rescue teams at the scene, the rider did not survive his injuries.

SHOP RAID Burglars stole 23 high-value bicycles and rare memorabilia during a four-minute raid at the Trisport shop in Junglinster yesterday. The perpetrators broke in at 3.33 am and fled by 3.37 am, before police arrived, prompting the owner to alert local shops to the incident.

BORDER CHECKS ILLEGAL A German court has ruled that border checks between Germany and Luxembourg breach European law. The court in Koblenz found the controls failed to meet the conditions required under the Schengen Borders Code, which only permits such checks where public order or internal security is genuinely at risk. The case was brought by a commuter who said he had been stopped repeatedly on the same route between the two countries.

US ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT – A man who opened fire at a Washington gala on Saturday has been formally charged with the attempted assassination of President Trump. The US Attorney General confirmed the charge after the suspect appeared before a judge. Donald Trump has described the attack as left-wing terrorism and blamed the Democratic Party.

COLOMBIA FOSSIL FUELS – More than 50 governments are meeting in Colombia today for the first international talks dedicated to phasing out fossil fuels. The conference in Santa Marta brings together ministers and climate envoys frustrated with the pace of UN climate negotiations. No binding commitments are expected, and the world's biggest emitters, including the United States, China and India, are not attending.

US KING CHARLES – Britain’s King Charles has arrived in Washington for a state visit overshadowed by a deepening rift between Britain and the United States over Donald Trump's war with Iran. He is due to address Congress today.

IRAN WAR – Oil prices have edged higher as President Trump considers an Iranian peace proposal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran is reported to have passed written terms to Washington via Pakistan, offering to unblock the waterway in exchange for an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports. The White House has not said whether Trump will accept.

AUSTRIA GUN LAWS – Austria has introduced stricter gun laws today, raising the minimum age to buy a pistol or revolver from 21 to 25, and for rifles from 18 to 21. The measures follow a school shooting in Graz last summer in which a pupil killed 10 people before taking his own life.

Sport

MARATHON – RTL Today’s very own James Dunn, from Letztalksport, completed the London marathon on Sunday in a mind-boggling time of 2hr 20minutes. Everybody here at the station is in awe and sends huge congratulations. The race was won by Kenyan Sabastian Sawe in 1hr 59 minutes and 30 seconds, becoming the first runner to break the 2-hour mark.

FOOTBALL – Paris St Germain face Bayern Munich in the first of the Champions League semi-finals at 9pm tonight. PSG coach Luis Enrique has insisted that no team in Europe could claim to be better than his right now while Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has hailed Harry Kane, saying the England captain is only getting better with age. Arsenal play Atletico tomorrow.

TABLE TENNIS – The World Team Table Tennis Championships get under way in London today. The Luxembourg’s men’s team open against Croatia this afternoon, before facing Qatar tomorrow and Serbia on Thursday. The women begin this evening against Guatemala, then play Portugal and Barbados later in the week.

This morning will start off a little cloudy, although the clouds will shift before lunchtime leaving us with clear skies and a sunny day. Balmy temperatures await us, starting at 10–12°C in the morning, warming up to highs of 21–23°C in the afternoon
